Introduction to bioinformatics platform
       
   

¡¡¡¡Bioinformatics group is an absolutely necessary and important department that not only takes charge of maintaining hardware and network safety but also conducts sequence assembly, sequence comparison, data analysis and software development. The current capacity is producing 30G original sequencing data every day, computing in a speed of 1.1 trillion times/second with 286 CPU and 721 G memory, saved data 75T. Bioinformatics platform is the core force to support genomics, proteomics and drug screening as well as the spirit of their developments and therefore the construction of these three platforms is closely related to the bioinformatics platform.

Group members
¡¡¡¡Bioinformatics group is composed of more than 150 people with average age of 24.5. In the group, 95% personnel got bachelor or above bachelor degree, among them 48% got degree in biology, 44% got degree in computer science with others account for 8%. This inter-disciplinary, multifunctional and high grade of scientific team is made up of scientific manager who is in the international top level, elite stuffs good at instructing and a group of well-trained "working bee" like researches.
¡¡¡¡Moreover, bioinformatics group attaches importance to reeducation of stuff, train personnel to improve their overall capability by combining running school and reeducation. In 2001, associated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University and Zhejiang University, we recruited more than 100 undergraduate students and more than 100 graduate students for master's degree and doctoral degree as well as more than 10 post-doctoral and visiting research workers from China and abroad. Training program established an important foundation for sustainable development.

Dawning 3000, come into our institute in 2001, computing speed: 100billion times/second, data amount 3T;
Super sever SUN10000, come into our institute in July 2001, computing speed: 100billion times/second, data amount 10T;£
¡¡¡¡Since analysis of huge amount of data need high performance computer, the development of bioinformatics platform promoted the improvement of computing hardware in China and abroad. Moreover network provided by bioinformatics group supported the biology data sharing in network.
