Scientists from Thailand visit BGI

On Aug. 3th, scientists from Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences visited Beijing Genomics Institute and signed ^Memorandum of Understanding between Beijing Genomics Institute of the People¨s Republic of China and Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences of Thailand on Cooperation in the Field of Life Sciences ̄. Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences, located in Bangkok, Thailand, was formed in 2004 by Prime Minister Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra with the purpose to mobilize the energy and resources of institutions, researchers, businesses entrepreneurs and financial institutions to work toward a common goal. TCELS was formed as part of a proactive response to medical and economic needs in the region in the wake of the December ¨04 tsunami, acting as a regional and global source of expertise on issues pertaining to posttraumatic and general mental health. The Thai friends visited sequencing group, bioinformatics group, protein expression lab, ELISA reagent production group and super computing platform. They highly evaluated the tremendous achievements BGI has got. Moreover, they expressed their wish to promote cooperation in the field of life sciences on the basis of reciprocity and mutual benefit for both institutions.
